We all know the wind is strong this time of year in the Texas Panhandle. Although it is cool and brisk outside, don’t let the seasonal change drain your wallet with your energy bills. There are small, yet benefit in saving a little change before the Holidays.

Take advantage of the heat from the sun. Turn down that heater and open those curtains. If the sun is shining, open those curtains and let that heat beam inside your home during the day. This can keep the heater from coming on every 10 minutes!

Maintain your heating system. Sometimes life gets in the way and we forget to check our filters. Make a note in your phone, or on the calendar on the fridge to check those filters. Clogged filters will make your heating system work harder, using more energy, which means that is wasting you money! Don’t be surprised next month when your bill comes in the mail!

Use your ceiling fans to your benefit. In the summer you can push that heat coming in up, making it cooler. In the winter you can reverse the rotation of the ceiling fan to trap that heat in and circulate it around the room. This is a very cost effective way to help out this winter during the chilling months.

Use a humidifier to hold in that moisture. Most air feels warmer when the moisture is held in, this can make any house feel more comfortable when you want to turn that thermostat down a couple of degrees!

Last but not least is, seal those leaky windows and around every window. This is a small step, but can help tremendously in the long run. You can seal your windows from the outside, and inside for better insolation. Sealing your windows is a very inexpensive way to help cut back.

We hope these few small tips help you save a little on your energy bills this fall and winter. Saving a little money during the winter months is always a plus. Whether is is $10 or $100 each month, every little bit helps. Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and Christmas will be here before we know it. We wish you a very blessed Fall season, until next time!
